Master’s Dissertation: VALUE MODELING IN ARCHIMATE INTEGRATING THE VDML AND ARCHIMATE LANGUAGE
Supervisor: Prof. dr. Geert Poels
Co-supervisor: Prof. dr. Ben Roelens
Introduction
People question regularly about the relationship, both positioning-wise and, potentially, technically, between Enterprise Architecture (EA) and Value Delivery Modeling/Management (VDM) on the other hand.
In the context where we get exposed to this question, it is typically about Archimate as EA language, and implemented by BizzDesign, and about VDML as VDM language, as implemented by VDMbee Strategyplanner.
After Prof. Geert Poels of University of Gent had presented a short paper as kick-off of a further exploration at VMBO 2020 in Brussels (see here), Kathleen Nollet wrote a beautiful master thesis on this subject.
Study objective
In this thesis she provides a meaningful positioning, from which it is clear that, though both languages and tools do something with “value” and VDM-related objects, it is for quite different purposes, and also in quite different ways and at quite different levels of detail (or abstraction). She also suggests a level of potential integration which is quite useful in both directions. So that both domains can strengthen each other.
Explanations and visualizations in her thesis are also based on a Smart Maintenance use case, that was integrally modeled in Strategyplanner and quite well documented in this thesis.
If you are interested in the model (model data) of the Smart Maintenance case, as it can be imported and navigated in Strategyplanner, let us know so we can provide it to you.
